New and Fun Textured Pieces
Remember the supplies I showed you the other day that I recently purchased? One of them was a texture plate from Helen Breil Designs called the Conga Line. I finally got around to trying it out and fell in love with it instantly!
Here are some new buttons I created using this new texture design.

Ever since I made my first custom order shawl pin, I've been wanting to make more but never seemed to find the time. I finally created 2 new designs using this same wonderful texture plate.
I have more designs I'm working on but these are a start.
And of course I had to create some switch plate covers using the same color scheme.

More new pieces for the Salmon Festival
We made a quick trip out to the Adams River yesterday to see which art pieces have sold and what we need to make more of. There were a lot more holes on our display than expected so I have to get busy and make more.
Here are some more switchplate covers with a different look.

Some pens done in a similar style.
We really like the twist pens from Boston Craftworks but were looking for something a little more economical to cover and sell as another option. Surfingcat and Angela from Crafty Goat's Notes each had great blog posts sharing various pens they had experimented with in covering and we really liked the Bic Soft-feel Retractable Click pen the best which is what we used here. They come apart, simple to cover and then put back to together again. One tip I learned about covering this type of barrel is to smooth a very thin layer of liquid clay all over before applying the sheet clay to eliminate any air pockets underneath.

Fan/Light Pulls to Match
One thing about me is that I have this real matchy matchy thing. When I use to sew more and made almost all my own clothes (I just don't have the time right now anymore) I had this thing about using every bit of left over pieces of fabric to make a matching handbag, hair bow, etc. My friends told me they could always tell if I made it because it all coordinated. Now when I make my own jewelry I have to have the whole matching set -- necklace/pendant, earrings, watch bracelet, hair barrette and even sometimes buttons for my shirt or sweater.
The same goes for my home. Of course things don't match all the same there -- they just have to coordinate well -- I like a mix of textures and colors as long as they are within the same theme.
So I decided to make our new fan/light pulls to match .. uh hum .. coordinate with .. our switch plate covers and cabinet knobs and here is the design I came up with.

Home Decor
We've been focusing on expanding our home decor art lately. I find covering switch plates can not only be a lot of fun but also very rewarding as they add a nice accent to the walls. We are creating a line of designs for custom ordering where the customer can select their type of receptacle cover, pattern and color.

You can see more of our latest designs on our Jewelry for the Home site and more will be listed on a regular basis.

Fluorescent Fun
Our oldest grandson was visiting us this week and so between our swimming time in the lake we squeezed in some clay time. When he was here last summer we made some things together for the first time. You can see those here. This time we decided to make a switchplate cover for his room with a gecko on it. We made the lace cane for the gecko which turned out pretty good. The whitish outline part around the eyes and on his back glow in the dark. I tried taking night photos of it glowing but I haven't figured out that setting on the camera yet. Anyone have any tips?
He extruded some clay for the vines and picked out some flower and leaf canes from my boxes and sliced and positioned them where he wanted. The neatest part I like are the flies he made from a little mould I have and placed them on the gecko's tongue and vine! Something I wouldn't have thought of doing and I like the sense of humor he is developing - takes after his grandfather!
I also had him make a ball of clay and place slices from the cane ends on it and then showed him how to make a lentil swirl. We were wondering what to do with it when we decided it would make a great glow in the dark fan pull for his room to match his switchplate cover.
He is really into music and has been playing the bass clarinet in the school band and originally wanted to make some musical notes from clay. I happened to leave a comment on Angela's Crafty Goat's Notes Blog a while ago about some new clay she was trying out by Sculpey called The Bake Shop. She was kind enough to send me a block of clay to try and it just happened to be black which was perfect for Adam to experiment and play around with. He really liked it since he could condition it in his hands easy enough and he said it was nice and soft yet it didn't seem too sticky -- especially since our house was a little warm. The muscial notes shown above was one of the pieces he made with it. I can see where polymer clay and kids just seem to go hand in hand as our two grandsons love to play with it and it is one of the things they look forward to the most when they visit. Maybe that is why I like it so much as I can feel like a kid again but still create adult type things!
