Jewel-tone Double-sided Textured Beads

We just finished off a bunch of double-sided texture beads and matching rondelle spacers in some jewel-tone colors for the Jewelry Party this Saturday at the Sewing Basket where everyone will make a memory wire bracelet.

Everyone will get to pick their own beads out in their favorite colors and textures to design their own bracelet.

I noticed that Pearl Ex has come out with some new colors that are suppose to be more bright and vibrant.  I am always looking for new colors and so these should be fun to play with.  You can read more about them here on Wendy's blog who now has them for sale at Shades of Clay.

We work with mica powder pigments quite a bit and in my tutorials, Double-sided Textured Beads, Textured Tubes and More and Make Your Own Rondelle Spacer Beads, I share some tips on working with them.

One thing I do differently now is I have actually mixed some of the colors to create new colors and save them in small jars with the recipe written on in case I need to make more.

Double-sided Textured Beads With Bling

Making the double-sided textured beads can be a lot of fun and I love making them in all the different jewel-tone colors.  I was experimenting with adding Swarovski crystals to my beads like in the "Fiesta Spiral" design shown here.

I made them a little larger than my regular beads to create more of a focal pendant just by adding extra clay to my mould .  I use the genuine Swarovski crystals that are flat back and the "hot fix" type.  The hot fix crystals have a glue on them that is activated when heated and gives a little extra hold.

When adding the crystals I embedded both sides at the same time so as not to interfere with the texture.

Jewel Tone Colors

I finished making a bunch of rondelle spacer beads in the metallic jewel-tone colors.

I like to make these beads in colors to match the double-sided lentil beads to use in our jewelry pieces.  I created some new jewel tone color combinations and updated them in our ArtFire studio and Etsy shop.

Fiesta Spiral Rings

These rings match the Fiesta Spiral double-sided textured beads in some new jewel tone colors.  I used the polished pigments by Lumin Arte  in powder form here and find the colors more intense than the typical mica powders.  I'm still experimenting with ways to use this medium and discovering some fun new colors.

The bands on all of our rings are made from textured clay and available in two sizes:  Small - Medium and Medium - Large.  There is a slit at the back that expands slightly to fit the finger.

I experimented with some Premo clay and made some bands but found they were too soft and flexible to hold their shape.  The Kato clay is much stronger with just enough flex for a comfortable fit without stretching too far.

New Fiesta Shawl Pins

I had some orders to fill for shawl pins so made up some extras with a new design.  These ones we are calling our Fiesta series.  The swirl on the end of the sticks were made using my same technique as I use for my double-sided textured beads.

We added these shawl pins to the Shuswap Lake Festival of the Arts gift shop today with a few extras left over that we will list in our Etsy shop later in the week.
