Blog Debris - Young Artist Aelita Andre

I love spending time each day relaxing with my cup of tea and catching up on blog reading.  I came across an interesting post on Every Day Inspired that I had to share with you.

It is about a young artist who is 4 years old.  She has been painting since she was only one year old and had her first gallery showing at age 2.  You can see an interview on 60 minutes here.

I found all this to be so unbelievable until I watched the video (see below) showing her at work.  I was just mesmerized while watching her and was blown away by the intent look of concentration on her face the entire time.  I found her use of color and painting techniques was extremely fascinating and how she seemed to know exactly how she wanted her piece to look and when it was complete.

When I saw all the mess my first thoughts were how patient her parents must be!  But then when I discovered that her paintings sell anywhere from $4000 - 10,000 with one for sale at $24,000, I decided I would be extremely patient as well!  With that kind of money I would hire someone to not only clean up but also keep a wardrobe of new painting clothes on hand in the closet!

So I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did ...

The Fashionista Ball - Blog Debris Day

If we were still living at the west coast, I know where I would be this coming Sunday!  I would be attending The Fashionista's Ball!

This is an incredible event where more than 3000 items have been donated to raise money for charity.  These items consist of original artwork, high fashion clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories all in mint condition and for sale at a fraction of the original price and 100% of all the money raised goes to the United Way.

Here are a few of the items that will be for sale and you can check out their facebook fanpage to see more.

They even give tips for shopping on their site that you can read here.  Each person is given a large red bag to carry for their items which can be later purchased.  It is a group fitting room and so is suggested to wear your "Ninja Shopping Out Fit" consisting of smooth fitting t-shirt and tights so items can be quickly tried on over your clothes.  Sounds like a real aerobics work-out at the same time!  It will be a mad house I'm sure as the first 300 people to make a purchase will receive a Goody Bag!

Blog Debris Day

Blogger announced there will be five new template layouts they will be adding to use on our blogs and you can read more about it here.

This is an exciting and fresh new approach that I think will add more fun to blog reading.  There are pros and cons to each of them but what I like is that you can view older blog posts at a glance without having to scroll back from page to page.

I personally like the flipcard, sidebar and snapshots the best and find the other two slightly confusing.  I  want to keep our blog simple and easy to read but fun as well.

Click on each of the links below that I set up for the different views of this blog and let me know which one(s) you prefer:

Blog Debris - Color Scheme Designer

Here is a fun site that you can play with and explore the color wheel and color combining.  It is called the Color Scheme Designer and you can drag your mouse to select the colors in the wheel as well as all other kinds of settings.

If you are really into Pantone colors like I am, check the tab at the top that says "color space" and click on "Pantone colors".  The colors adjust to the pantone shades and when you hover your mouse over all the colors it will give the Pantone color swatch numbers that match.

Mid Week Blog Debris

I came across this cool aptitude test based on the Dewey Color System.   The results will tell you what type of career you are best suited for.   You can take the test here.

Dave and I both took the test and were surprised with how accurate the results were.

Blog Debris Thursday

I'm up to my eyeballs in lizard tails and making faux turquoise.  Will have some more new stuff to show you soon.

In the meantime, I came across this video on carved candles the other day and it really got my mind whirling and thinking about how this could be applied to polymer clay.

Blog Debris Thursday

I cannot believe it is Thursday again already!  Sometimes I'm up in the night and can't sleep so I catch up on computer time.  I hate to admit it but Dave keeps reminding me it is more likely an age thing.  I came across this funny video on a friend's facebook page and thought I would share it with you today.  Dave and I laughed and felt she was singing about us.  I wonder how many hours I spend looking for things (especially in the studio) and he is the one trying to keep his mind sharp with all the crosswords!

Blog Debris Thursday

Today I thought I would share a fun blog I came across the other day.  It is Mich L in L.A.  Michelle creates fun jewelry pieces from recycled objects and has fun with it.  Whenever she finds a new object to create something cool she plays a game with her blog followers to see if they can guess what the item is.

Her latest piece is this cool "box" with a totem salmon fish on it.

It caught my eye as that totem symbol is very common here in British Columbia, Canada.  I have no clue what the object was originally used for.  Can any of you guess?  Hop on over to her blog and give your answer if you do.  I'm sure you will find it very entertaining!

Blog Debris Friday

We've enjoyed reading all the comments coming in for our give away contest.  Keep them coming as the cut-off is this evening and you still have time.

I thought I would share something each week that I find amazing or inspiring through my web surfing and exploring.

When I saw how this house was redecorated my heart skipped a beat and it was love at first sight!  It reminded me of some of the homes we had while living in Mexico with all the rich colors and tile work.

Click on the photos to read the article and see more eye popping photos.

We will be adding more color with some polymer clay tiles to our walls in the spring and seeing these photos really makes me want to get right at it!
