The Olympic torch came through our town today. Everybody is getting excited as this great event starts in only two weeks. People in our town and the surrounding area came out and lined the streets to wave their flags and celebrate. It was a beautiful day for this and it has been an extremely warm winter this year. -- you will notice there is no snow on the ground!
I am so excited too! We just found out the Torch Run is going to run right down our street. We are going to be able to stand in our own driveway to watch it! Will have to tidy the yard a bit, just in case it gets on TV. Will take photos and post on our blog when it happens. It is a once in a lifetime event!
ReplyDeleteit may be a once in a lifetime event and we had the torch in our town, BUT imagine, we're in for another $200 million dollars because they're having to bring in bales of hay via helicopter. They'll have to lay it down and then use artificial snow on top of it. Vancouvers warmest and rainiest winter ever!! Sorry, but I've been against the Olympics being hosted here to begin with. This will be another fiasco like the Ferry thing, but way costlier. BC'ers will be paying for this for a long time to come. Expensive Gold medals. Sorry to sound so cynical, but the Torch itself, it just doesn't seem as special as it used to. It's because it seems to have become more of a political thing than about sportsmanship.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad Tina you feel that way but we are originally from Alberta and lived in Calgary when they had the Olympics and we had the same thing happen their when the Chinook winds came and there was no snow! But it was the best thing that ever happened to that city and people had pride and was the most fun time ever! We have fond memories and know the good that the Olympics bring afterwards and it is too bad that a lot of people in this province are cynical and very negative when it comes to our government.
