Pantone Fall 2019 Fashion Colors Chili Pepper and Biking Red

There are two shades of red in the Pantone Fall 2019 fashion colors that are both so rich and gorgeous and yet quite unique from each other.  Pantone describes Chili Pepper as "a spicy red that adds drama and excitement as it stimulates the senses.  Biking Red is an adventurous deep red that is strong and powerful."

I combined these two shades with the Creme de Peche and Peach Pink to create some snaps for my interchangeable jewelry.  I love how the colors contrast yet combine so well.

Clay Recipes for the Pantone Spring 2019 Colors Terranium Moss, Pepper Stem and Aspen Gold

This spring season, Pantone includes two shades of green - Terranium Moss and Pepper Stem.  Both lean towards the yellow side of the color wheel which I am more partial to.  Aspen Gold is a soft yet still vibrant golden yellow and combines beautifully with the two greens.

Here are some samples I made using these three colors.

Clay Recipes for the Pantone Colors Jester Red and Sweet Lilac

The Pantone spring 2019 color Jester Red is more a burgundy or crimson.  It follows along from past seasons but has a bit more red than the Tawny PortChili Oil or Red Pear.  It combines beautifully with the Sweet Lilac which is a soft shade of pink and a hint of lavender.

I have been playing around with creating some new earring designs and love using these new Pantone colors for my experimenting.  It is also a great way to see how the colors look when they are combined.

These earrings can be worn various ways and in different combinations.  The charms are reversible and can be hung on my interchangeable ear wires.

They can also hang from the post earrings at the back of the ear which create this cool swivel effect.  I think this design is worth experimenting a little more.  For the post/studs I used the stainless steel bezel frames which are not only easy to fill but give a real professional finish.  I have them available in my online store along with the button shanks as well.

So here are the recipes for the Pantone colors Jester Red and Sweet Lilac using Kato clay.

Jester Red
8 parts Kato Red
1/2 part Kato Blue
2 parts Kato Pearl

Sweet Lilac
2 parts Kato Magenta
1/4 part Kato Violet
1 part Kato Yellow
10 parts White Mix #1-2 *

Pantone Color of the Year - Ultra Violet

I have noticed over the many years I have been mixing up the Pantone seasonal colors, that purple has not been very prominent and especially for the spring time.  In fact the last time a shade of purple was included with the spring colors was 2014 and even then, that shade, (Radiant Orchid), was leaning more towards a magenta than actual violet or purple.

Well not only is a purple in this Pantone Spring palette, it has also been declared as the color of the year!  I imagine all the purple lovers are dancing with joy over this.  I am okay with it but not overjoyed as it is a color that I cannot wear.  But by combining it with other colors like Lime Punch, Arcadia or Spring Crocus, I might actually be able to pull it off!

So I created some pieces using the Mokume Gane technique using just three of the Pantone Spring 2018 colors, Ultra Violet, Spring Crocus and Almost Mauve.  The three colors worked well together and created enough light and dark balance to make the pattern pop.

Scarf Necklace

Snap buttons for interchangeable jewelry

Whenever I play with this technique, each side of the compressed clay sheet is in two different colors -- I like to texture both sides to see which one I prefer.

In this combo, I like both sides and the two scarf necklaces below show the different results.

Just a few notes about these clay recipes.  If you have my Clay Color System, then you already have the Spring Crocus recipe.  The Ultra Violet is pretty much pure Kato Violet with a bit of pearl added.  And the Almost Mauve is white with a slight mauve tint which is obtained by adding a tiny amount of the Ultra Violet mix.  So here are the recipes for these three colors using Kato clay:

Ultra Violet

4 parts Kato Violet
1 part Kato Pearl

Spring Crocus

Same as the clay recipe
Fruit Punch # 11-2 *

Almost Mauve

8 parts White Mix 1-2 *
1/8 part Ultra Violet (above recipe)

Polymer Clay Recipe for the Pantone Color Poppy Red

The Pantone Spring 2013 color, Poppy Red is one of three primary colors for this coming season going along with Monaco Blue and Lemon Zest.

The clay recipe for this color is also super easy.  Just like the Pantone color, Lemon Zest, Kato Red is a perfect match for the Pantone color Poppy Red.  I normally wouldn't use the red clay straight from the package, however, I was looking for the right red to combine with a violet purple to create a scarf jewelry piece for a custom order.  Using Julie Picarello's technique, I combined pure red with a shade of purple and my white mix (recipe # 1-2 in my clay color system) to create this piece.

Polymer Clay Recipe for the Pantone Color Lemon Zest

The Pantone Spring 2013 fashion color Lemon Zest is a deep citron shade of yellow that is like warm sunshine.

If you are using Kato clay, then you already have this color recipe as the Kato Yellow in it's pure form is an almost perfect match.  I rarely use any of the polymer clay straight from the package but I have tried using the yellow at times and find it is less opaque than the other colors so combines well when creating canes and other techniques such as mokume gane.

Here is a jelly roll cane and buttons made from it using a skinner blend of yellow and teal (see recipe # 8-4 in my Clay Color System).

If you have my Clay Color System, you already have the clay color recipe for Monaco Blue.  It is a pretty close match to my Royal Blue, recipe # 9-4.  Here is the color recipe for Dusk Blue using Kato clay:

Pantone Fashion Colors for Spring 2013

Here are the new Pantone Fashion colors for Spring 2013.

I know Christmas isn't even here yet but for some of you who want to think on warmer things in this cold winter season, I will share with you some new color recipes using Kato clay over the next few weeks.  It will be part of our Christmas gift to all of our followers. (The other part is a surprise.)

Many of these clay color recipes I share use "base mixes" that are included in my Clay Color System.  For those of you who are not familiar with my Color System, it is more than just clay color recipes but a tutorial using my own method of mixing and combining color.  You can read more about it here.

So I will be mixing up some new colors this week and will share them with you starting tomorrow.

Pantone Fall 2012 Color Recipes - Bright Chartreuse and Olympian Blue

Fall is right around the corner so it is time I finally share some of the new Pantone Fall 2012 clay color recipes with you.  If you are new to following our blog, I have written a color tutorial, Carolyn's Clay Color System, for those who would like to learn more about mixing and combining colors.  I have included more than 50 color recipes using Kato polyclay to get you started.  Some of those recipes are what I call my "base mixes" that I use to create more colors from.

It is exciting to mix up and create new colors but I sometimes tend to fall into a trap of using my favorite ones over and over.  One of the reasons I like to follow the Pantone Fashion report is that I am always up to date in my latest jewelry designs and it also inspires me to create new colors combined in different ways.  If you would like to check out my color recipes from the spring of this year you can find all of them here.

Tangerine Tango is included as one of the fall colors as it was established as the color of the year.  You will find the recipe for this color using Kato clay in a previous blog post here.  I have included two variations of this shade, one of which has more pearl and works well in a mica shift technique.

Since I am a little behind in my posting I decided to share two color recipes with you today:

Bright Chartreuse
20 x Kato yellow
1 x Kato green
1/2 x Kato gold

Olympian Blue
8 x Kato Ultra Blue
1/2 x Kato Black

And here are some beads I made using my "Mini Mokume" technique in this color combination with the white base mix (recipe # 1-2).  (Note:  Both the mini mokume technique and white base mix color recipe are found in my clay color system tutorial)

*** Also one more note regarding my Clay Color System.  I have been working madly to recreate my color recipes so you can easily print them out directly onto 4" x 6" index cards.  I should have them ready in the next day or so and will sell them separately from my clay color system.  If anyone has already purchased my Clay Color System tutorial in the past and would like these recipes to print out in this format, please e-mail me direct with the information as to where you purchased my tutorial from (an invoice # or approximate date would be helpful) and I will send them to you at no charge.

This color is a richer and darker shade of my Teal recipe # 8-4 in my Clay Color System.  To achieve this new teal color, follow recipe # 8-4 but increase the turquoise from 4 parts to 6 parts and add 5 parts of black.

Tomorrow I will share with you the next two Pantone color recipes, Coffee Liqueur and Nougat....

Pantone Fall 2011 Color Recipes - Honeysuckle

I mentioned yesterday that I would be sharing with you the new Pantone Color recipes for this fall and winter.  I have been following the Pantone fashion guide for some time now and mixing up my clay color recipes to match for making my beads (and now buttons) so our jewelry would coordinate for that season.  I found the colors to be very inspiring when it came to creating various blends and combinations.  One thing I have noticed over the years is how the colors do not change from season to season or even year to year all that  drastically.  The changes are more subtle and there are several common threads that run between them.  In fact, if you have most of the color recipes for the past year or so, all they need is a little tweaking here and there to create the new color for another season.  I will show you how this works with the new recipes I will be sharing with you.

I should explain of course that all my recipes are using Kato polyclay.  I prefer this clay over the other brands since it is a much harder type of clay and I like how the colors are more true for mixing.

Another thing is that these new Pantone color recipes are based on my Clay Color System Tutorial.  If you already purchased my Clay Color System tutorial, you will be able to add these new recipes to your album.  If you do not have my tutorial or use another brand of clay, you can mix up your own recipe just by following the guidelines I will be providing.

My Clay Color System tutorial already provides more than 60 Kato color recipes.  Some of those color recipes I've included are listed on the Shades of Clay site but 54 colors are entirely my own.  Most of the recipes I have provided are perfect for using as is, but many of them are considered "base-type" recipes and intended for creating blends and using as a "base starting point" for creating more new colors by following the Color Wheel and six-step color blend worksheets provided.

Another question I get asked often is if I use any of the Kato color concentrates in my recipes.  I want to tell you here that I do not use any of the concentrates at all and for several reasons.  I have experimented with them a bit and found them to be extremely dry and crumbly so therefore difficult to work with.  I also found them to not be that  concentrated and you still need a fair bit to create a rich color so therefore making them rather costly.   They seem to work best for the mica shift technique and there are some great recipes for this as well on the Shades of Clay site.

Honeysuckle
Pantone Color of the Year

I decided to start you off with Honeysuckle (recipe # 11-6 in my clay color system) as the first color.  Honeysuckle was chosen by Pantone as the Fashion color of the year so it is still a part of the Fall 2011 color palette.  I already shared this color recipe with you on a previous blog post along with a fun tutorial on how to make your own Disc style Earrings.  You can click on the photo below and it will take you there.

You will notice that the honeysuckle shown here might be a darker shade than what is on the Pantone website.  If you prefer a much lighter shade, this can be easily created by adding more pearl or white mix (recipe # 1-2) until you achieve the shade you want.
